Babe Ruth
Babe Ruth- This was a star base ball player. He was born on February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were George Sr. and Kate. George. He was one of eight children but only he and his sister Mamie survived. Babe Ruth was sent to a catholic school where he found his love for baseball. He received a contract from the Baltimore orioles February 1914. Then was sold to the Boston Red Sox and pitched four of their games. By the end of his Red Sox career he had the record for 29 home runs in 1919. He then was sold to the New York Yankees in 1920 and crushed his hold home run record with 59 home runs in a single season. He was put into the Hall of Fame in 1936. Babe Ruth died on August 16, 1948 from a cancerous tumor in his neck. He is now the most well know baseball player of his time.
Jack Dempsey
Jack Dempsey- He was born on June 24, 1895 in the Mormon village of Manassa, Colorado. He was a farm hand and cowboy when he was a boy. He was taught by his older brother to box at a young age. His parents were Hyrum and Celia Dempsey. His first fights started in mining towns near Salt Lake city. On July 4th 1919, he beat the former heavyweight champion Jess Willard and became the new heavyweight champion. Through out his career he defended his title five times but lost to Gene Tunney in 1926 losing his heavy weight title. He was put into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1954 and is one of the ten best boxers of all time. Jack Dempsey died on May 31, 1983 from heart failure. He is one of the greatest icons to boxing of all time.
Steve Donoghue
Steve Donoghue - He was born November 8 1884 in Cheshire, England. He had a boring life as a child with a father as a steel worker. When he became 12 years old he left his home because he won a prize for riding a donkey at a circus. He won the Epsom Derby six times in 1920. He retired at the age of 52 in 1937. He later died on March 23 1945 from a heart attack. He is know as on of the best jockey racers of all time.
I personal think that Babe Ruth was the most important person in this time due to his amazement that he gave to the crowd and the people he pleased with how well he played.
